The Remote work method by a Top Silicon Valley Coach
Matt Mochary is a CEO coach for US tech leaders. He’s published his very own method to work well remotely - here are the highlights we found most surprising.
CONTEXT
It is critical to have a personal connection with your team. In person, it’s quite easy to connect - almost inevitable. You come to an office in the morning, and you’ll say “hello” to your co-workers.
This is a lot less evident in remote. There is a big risk of remote work causing disconnection, which can cause an imbalance in your life.
We’ve all been there, haven’t we?
METHOD
Matt has two simple routines for leaders, but really anyone can adapt them to maintain connection even through distance.
Create your own prompts:
You can only show you care by showing interest in a person’s life
Of course, this encompasses knowing the city the person lives in, the partner’s name, pet’s name, hobbies - the obvious things!
But Matt also recommends keeping an “Ask me about” section or personality test results to make conversations even more calibrated and individual.
One hour per week:
This is the time you should dedicate to sending messages to your work team, network, family, and friends to let them know you’re thinking of them. The messages don’t need to be long, but they must be personal (hence why you worked on 1.).
CLOSING THOUGHTS
The method is simple, yet impactful—give it a try.

This Resource shoutout is special: Matt Mochary has publicized his method in a Google Doc anyone can access. How awesome is that?
